Marieke's Cheesy Meatball Hoagies

Ingredients (serves 4):


  • 1 clove garlic

  • 1 clove garlic, pressed

  • 1 egg

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon parsley

  • 1/3 cup milk

  • ¾ cup quick cook oatmeal

  • 1 pound ground beef

  • ¼ cup vegetable oil

  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil



  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

  • 2 cloves garlic, pressed

  • 1 -14 ounce can crushed tomatoes

  • 1 -8 ounce can tomato sauce

  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano

  • ½ teaspoon dried basil

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 4 hoagie buns

  • 3 1/3 cups Marieke Gouda Pesto Basil, shredded


  1. Combine one clove of garlic, egg, ½ teaspoon salt, parsley, milk, and oatmeal in a medium bowl. Crumble ground beef over mixture, mix together using hands. Form into 16 meatballs, set aside. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet and cook meatballs on each side until browned on all sides. Remove meatballs from the skillet and set aside. Wipe out skillet with a paper towel.

  2. Using the same skillet heat the extra virgin olive oil over medium heat add two cloves of garlic and cook until fragrant about 30 seconds. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, and ½ teaspoon salt return meatballs to the pan and simmer for 20 minutes.

  3. Preheat broiler. To prepare sandwiches place 1/3 cup Marieke Gouda Pesto Basil on a bun, top with four meatballs and sauce, finish with ½ cup more Marieke Gouda Pesto Basil; repeat process with remaining three buns. Place on cookie sheet and broil until cheese is melted and buns are toasted. Enjoy!
